Finally some photos from our weekend in Hallstatt. We really treated ourselves and went Hotel style - which Madam loved of course !
Arrived on Friday night and had a look around which was nice. Had a lovely dinner as well. On Saturday we got the special lift up to the Salt Mine which is the oldest in the world. We had a guided tour complete with slide and train ride at the end. In the afternoon we headed back down to the lake and had a lovely COLD swim to cool off. It had been over 35 degrees so Charly and I didn't care how cold the lake was. Mike took a while to get in but us Kiwis were in straight away ! We had another lovely evening in our posh Hotel with dinner etc.
On Sunday we biked the 5km to the Dachstein ice Caves, rock caves, five fingers viewpoint and the Dachstein Glacier. It was all accessible via 3 gondolas which took us up the mountain. We had to walk to each cave about 20 mins in over 35 degrees so we were pretty pleased to get into the caves themselves. The rock caves were 8 degrees and the ice caves were -3 - lovely to cool off ! We then missed the ferry after our bike ride to the ferry landing spot and decided to jump in to cool off - I had nothing to change into so I was in clothes and all ! We had to wait an hour so it was perfect.
On Monday morning we hired a little motor boat and drove around the lake for about an hour checking out all the boatsheds, Hallstatt from the water and the castle on the other side. Beautiful !! We then drove over to Bad Ischl and went to the best cake shop in Austria - Zauner. Treated ourselves to lovely cake and coffee and then drove to Lake Wolfgang and spent the afternoon swimming before heading home.
