Colder and Colder

Hey People

Well the weather is turning now and it's getting a tad chilly. The other day we had the first frost on the rooves and that means 90 days later it will snow. Bit late however cause if it's true then it wont snow till the end of December. Oh well. Looking forward to a great winter, hopefully, with lots of skiing. We had 1 degree the other morning and the sun was shining but as soon as you go into the shade you need a big jacket !

NEWS

Charly and I are flying to NZ from the 6th of January for 5 weeks. I can't wait and Charly seems cool about it but she will love it when we are there. Will probably miss Papa but it always goes so quick. I am looking forward to catching up with friends and family and a few people I missed out on the last trip in 2005 - Helen and Declan for sure this time. Stopping in Perth for a week to see Karl so that should be great as well.

Hope you are all well. Photos coming soon OK.

Highland Games

Hey All

Today we had a cool event here in Kitz. It was the Highland Games.

They had a tug of war, egg throwing, roll the barrel, obstacle course and caber throwing. All great to watch and the pumped up bodybuilders were in there as well - Thor, Magnus and his mates.

Poor fox ...

Magnus and Thor ...

Great laugh watching them do their stuff - guys and gals - mostly german teams but one Kitzbühel team entered as well. We didn't do too well though.

The bagpipes were there and did their thing as well. Charly had a great time watching them running around and getting all serious about it all.

Hangi - Sep 2008

Hello All

Well we had a great Hangi at the weekend. The balance was:

49 Adults
30 Children

100 bottles of beer (0,5l)
10 bottles of white wine
2 bottles of red wine
1/2 bottle whiskey
18 cartons of juice (1l)
25 bottles of mineral water (1,5l)
100 mini sausages - thanks martina
100 mini bread rolls
5,6kg lamb
4,6 kg beef
3 whole chickens
4 whole pumpkins
10 potatoes
3 huge salads - thanks peggy, liz and ingrid
1 fruit salad - thanks karin
1l ketchup
1 pavlova - thanks todd
1 apple cake - thanks brixa
5 kg stir fry vegies

Not bad huh ! The food was fantastic and everybody raved about the lamb and the stir fry vegies that Mike made of course. All the food was gone and we could have done with a few more of certain things. On the list for next year. The herbs on the meat made a huge difference and it was cooked to perfection. 4 hours in the ground - may do 5 next time.

Here are a few photos for you all to nosey at. I had my great NZ t-shirt on that I got for my birthday from Karl. Unfortunately I was taking the photos and no-one took one of me ... also was a bit of a headless chicken filling up the beer, bread, water, etc. so didn't actually take all that many pikkies - sorry !!

Charly ran around with the kids full-on from 4.00pm till 9.30pm so it was a long active day for her but she had a ball.

I got to bed at 3.00am only to be woken up again at 7.00am by Charly. Mike got in at 4.30am and is still dead now - it's 5.00pm. Hilda, Peter and I cleaned up everything and it went quite well really.

A big thanks to all those who came and also for the lovely gifts and goodies you all brought with you.

Tini and Eric have become parents again - a big boy called Tim weighing in at a proud 3,8kg - well done. 5am on the morning of the Hangi ! Congratulations !!!!!

Take care - Love us 3 xxxooo

Sweden - Aug 2008

Hey People

We are back and had a fantastic time in Sweden. The weather was good really considering it was the end of summer up there. We had sunshine most of the time and when the clouds were there it was still OK. A cold wind was around 90% of the time which was not to great but it didn't dampen our spirits. We even went swimming in the Baltic Sea which reminded me of Dunedin temperatures !! Bit nippy to say the least. Once you were in it was fine though.

I took a heap of photos and have loaded them all onto Picasa Web so that all you have to do is paste the link into the internet and then you can view the complete album at your leisure. Here it is:

We loved Sweden and the countryside was fantastic. We started off from Munich and caught the Auto Train to Hamburg. Loaded the van onto the train and slept in a cabin. We left at 10.30pm and go to Hamburg at 8.00am so it saved a lot of driving. Unfortunately the cabin only had two bunks so Mike and I had to share one ... They told me it was for 3 - ha ha they lied !!

From Hamburg it was off to Malmö in Sweden via Denmark and the Oresund Bridge which was amazing. We spent time at the following places:

Malmö
Trelleborg - Viking Village
Karlskrona - Maritime City (Unesco protected)
Kalmar - Kalmar Castle
Vimmerby - Astrid Lindgrenn Land (Pippi Longstocking)
Eksjö - oldest wooden houses in Sweden
Gothenburg
Marstrand
Legoland Denmark

Lots of lovely wine red houses with white trims everywhere. Beautiful coastal islands, forests, beaches and fishing villages, castles and windmills - modern and old, all over the place !

Charly had a ball and loved seeing all the different things. She was really good in the car and we had planned the trip quite well with the longest stretches being from Hamburg to Malmö. After that we just had litle day trips with a maximum of 2-3 hours in the car throughout the whole day i.e. left in the morning and drove for an hour or so and then visited a site, had lunch and a coffee with an ice cream for madam and a walk around and then headed off for another hour or so.

We either slept in the van or the tent - one in each with Charly or we rented little cabins at the camping grounds which were pretty cool. Complete with kitchen, bathroom, bunks, etc. All of the camping grounds in Scandinavia have kitchens so we could cook for ourselves when we wanted to. All of them had a cool playground and some a mini-golf course which was fun for Charly.

That's all for now. Check out the photo album if you want.
