A few bits and pieces ...

Hey Guys

We went and watched the Almabtrieb again this year of course.  Lovely as usual and here are a few shots.  This was in the Kelchsau which was small and really traditional.

Charly also took part in a memorial race on the Hahnenkamm.  It was a team relay sprint and the teams were picked at random.  She got a good team and was the first kid through the finish gate to pass on her baton.  She did really well and it was a great event !  Her team came third overall !!

Another successful tournament as well last weekend.  Charly played in the U12 tournament in Zell am See and managed to win a match and then lost to the eventual winner of the tournament who was a very good player.  She played amazingly and managed to win 3rd place - so proud of her.  Her team mates were Andrea (1st place) and Yannick (1st place) - Kitzbühel made it onto the podium 3x at the weekend.  Great !!

Alpenschule (Mountain School) - 9-11 Sept 2013

I know, I know - behind as usual but here come a bit at least.

At the beginning of the new school year Charly's class were able to take part in 2 nights and 3 full days at the Alpenschule in Westendorf which is a village about 30mins from Kitzbühel.

They headed up there by train with their teacher and 3 parents including me.  I was assigned a room with 4 girls and Martina (teacher) had the rest of the girls.  The two Dads that accompanied us got the boys.  We were in different farm houses up high on the mountain and the views were amazing.

They all had a great 3 days although some kids (albeit aided by their parents) couldn't handle staying away from home.  Amazing for me as in NZ we stayed at friend's places early on and here in Austria it is not as common.  They are all over 9 years of age but it was still a struggle for a few of them.

They learned about sheep shearing, making cheese and yoghurt, herb salts and herb bread, life on a mountain farm now and previously and heaps of other cool things.  Here are a few photos to look at.
